Enjoy.
The wonderful author and illustrator Oliver Jeffers, has kindly decided to read one of his books every day while students are home from school. If you click on the link below, it will bring you directly to his website where, with the guidance of a responsible adult, you can access his instagram page and the live reading of his books. Today, Mr Jeffers will read 'Lost and Found'. He begins reading at 6pm GMT. Why not enjoy his incredible talents and listen to the author himself.
https://www.oliverjeffers.com/ Enjoy. Please find below, an outline of work that your child can complete while they are learning at home over the coming weeks. The content outlined in each document supports the work that children are completing at school and can be approached with some guidance and encouragement from an adult. There is plenty of independent work listed, that each child can attend to with relative ease. It is important to encourage consistency and regularity so children should try to make an effort to attend to the suggestions below. Please note, senior infants have received hard copies of all work to be completed.
On Friday 14 February, the boys and girls in Rang 6 enjoyed a 'Poetry Slam'. It was organised by Ms O'Connor and supported by the class teachers. The students came together to create, share and appreciate poems. We are always amazed by the talent and creativity of our boys and girls. They never fail to impress.
On Tuesday last, we celebrated the last day before Lent begins. Shrove Tuesday was traditionally an opportunity for people to use up their store of sugar and luscious foods as they prepared for the forty days of fasting that begin on Ash Wednesday. We take this opportunity to remind ourselves to be more reflective, thoughtful and considerate in all that we do. We try to consider taking on a positive habit or a positive action for the season of Lent. Perhaps we could help out at home. Perhaps we might try to show greater kindness to someone who in our class who needs a friend. Perhaps we will try to work harder at something which we find challenging. The season of Lent is like a new broom sweeping the house clean; we take time to reflect and look forward. As we do, we enjoy some pancakes with our teachers and friends and say thanks for all the wonderful joys we share together.
Our annual book fair is being held in the Atrium from March 2nd until 6th. All classes in the school will visit the fair where they will be afforded the opportunity to peruse and perhaps purchase some books. We are indebted to the parents who help to coordinate the fair. It is a wonderful opportunity to expand our libraries and re-energise our love for reading.
Thank you to Ms Mullany for organising the book fair each year. It is difficult to fully appreciate the transformation that has happened in our school over the past week. It has become a most magical place where teapots and candlesticks talk and interact and spoons, napkins and dishes perform stunning dance sequences. We are so thrilled with the positive response to Beauty and the Beast. This is the sixth musical production undertaken by our school and the first to be staged on site. It has been an amazing coming together of students, parents, teachers and the wider community. Our Atrium has been tastefully decorated and leads the visitor to the theatre - or what once was a P.E. hall.
Every one of the five shows has sold out and we couldn't be happier. It is a true testament to the support and enthusiasm of our school community. The cast has been on top form throughout. School work each day, followed by a performance each night. The boys and girls are a credit to their families and we are enormously proud of each and every one of them. A sincere thank you to Ms Dixon, Ms Donohoe and Ms Lee for their sterling effort in bringing the show to the stage. We are also indebted to the parents who coordinate front of house, parking, ticket sales and so much more. We couldn't possibly achieve what we have achieved without the support of one another. Beir bua gach duine. The Merchandise shop is open outside Ms Donohoe's room each morning. A message on the intercom will alert students and teachers when the shop is open for business. There are some wonderful items on sale including mugs, pens, pencils and t-shirts.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
We are currently seeking prize donations for our Parents' Association Christmas Raffle. No matter how big or small, all prizes are accepted. For those of you who don't already know, the Parents' Association has replaced the voluntary contribution envelope with this raffle over the last two years, in order to raise vital funds for our school. It has been a huge success thus far. If you can dig deep and give generously for this great cause, we will be most grateful. Thank you to those who have already donated. It is very much appreciated. We are so proud of Saira, Anna, Chidinma and Laoise who represented our school at the Phoenix FM School Duel Quiz. They were triumphant against St. Patrick's Corduff and are now through to the quarter final. It is a great achievement for the girls and for the school. They were excellent representatives for our school and we are all enormously proud of them. Well done.
We love partnering with our local library. Well done to the boys and girls in Rang 4 (Ms Fortune) who had a great time yesterday as they engaged in mindful meditation, programming and accessing library resources.
Ms Fortune brought her fourth class boys and girls to Blanchardstown library on Wednesday to enjoy a day filled with wonderful experiences. The students learned how to code using programming language. It was a great experience and another step on our journey to becoming a digital school.
Mr Thynne brought his fifth class to Blanchardstown library this week. The students were delighted to engage with the accomplished author Megan Wynne who inspired the boys and girls to pick up a pen and write. It was a wonderful day.
Thanks to our wonderful colleagues Tina, Esther and Sandra, our boys and girls can now enjoy savouring a book in our newly rejuvenated 'Reading Garden'. The courtyard outside the Atrium has been transformed into a warm and welcoming space where our students can sit and read. It is a little haven which encourages peace and tranquility. In this busy world in which we live, couldn't we all benefit from some quiet time with a book.
Ms Lucey, together with members of the Green Team, visited Airfield Farm in Dundrum earlier this week. It was part of a whole range of activities ongoing in the school which enable our students to learn more about biodiversity, sustainability and food culture. The boys and girls were thrilled to meet with the farmers on site and enjoyed thoroughly the majesty and beauty of the farm animals. The donkeys and goats were particular favourites given their timidity yet eager curiosity. We are so fortunate to enjoy wonderful opportunities to broaden our horizons and we love to learn about the beauty of the natural world.
We are delighted to welcome faces new and old, to Huntstown. We are looking forward to a productive year where we will learn and grow together. New beginnings can be a little daunting at times, but with kindness, cooperation and patience, we will all enjoy our year and flourish in unison.
