Maths Week proved extremely popular this year. We all had a fantastic time, using our Maths Eyes to explore the world around us. Everyone took part and everyone had great fun in the process. There was shape work at infants and first class. Students from across the school went on pre-prepared Maths Trails around the whole school. Students made patterns, explored number, played with tangrams, measured playgrounds, found odd and even numbers and even counted the footsteps from the photocopier to the classroom door at the end of the red corridor. It was a great week with a really wide and varied array of activities. Thank you to Ms O.Barry and Mr Thynne for coordinating this event.
Mr Doyle ran a very successful soccer blitz in October. It was a great opportunity to showcase the sporting talents of our students. Matches were held during lunch breaks and the final was held at the community centre next to our school. Mr Lyons was delighted to award the medals and trophy. There was great excitement and joy on display.
This year we have introduced a 'Class of the Month' award. Students from across the school are very excited to play their part. Every time we make a fervent effort to show the best of ourselves, we are rewarded with positive marks on our class level record books. We try our best to be good and kind on the playground. We make a real effort to line up properly before and after lunch. When we are showing excellent manners, great respect and courtesy, we are showing the best that Huntstown has to offer. At the end of each month, the class at each of the eight class levels that has shown the best behaviour is awarded the class of the month trophy and receives a prize.
We are delighted to have a wonderfully active student council in our school. Two students from each of the fifth and sixth classes are elected to the council each year. They help out at school events. They help to coordinate fundraising efforts. They are active in supporting the school and devising new initiatives to make the school a better place for us all. Well done to each and every one of our student council members. We look forward to working on some wonderful activities this year.
The boys and girls in Rang 6 (Ms Murray) helped to coordinate our Team Hope Shoe box Appeal, once again this year.
We are always heartened by the efforts of our students and by the kindness they show to others less fortunate than ourselves. We know that there are lots of boys and girls in other parts of the world who face challenging times this Christmas. It is the mission of the Team Hope organisers to create gift boxes with toys and practical presents for children who might otherwise not receive anything for Christmas. We are always amazed by the generosity of the students and their families. Thank you to Ms Murray for coordinating this initiative. |
