The school will be closed next week (Mon 2 - Fri 6 May inclusive) for midterm break. All students return to school on Monday 9 May 2016.
Congratulations to everyone who attended the yellow flag ceremony on Tuesday 26 April. Last year we began the yellow flag programme. We worked very hard to explore diversity in our school. Language challenges were introduced where students with international heritage shared their languages with us all. We learned to count in French, Chinese, Polish and many other languages. We know how to say hello and thank you in these languages too. The boys and girls worked on 'Friendship Week' where we identified the importance of making and sustaining friendships.
The ceremony to receive the yellow flag was held in city hall. We thank all the teachers and students who worked so hard to achieve this award. Well done. Congratulations to Rían Brennan, USKFI National Champion (6 to 9 years). Rían is in Ms Donohoe's second class. Well done on an amazing achievement. We, like your family, are very proud of you Rían.
A number of our boys and girls from the senior classes are representing their school at an athletics event in Santry today (12 / 04 / 2016). We have enjoyed great success at this and similar events in recent years, owing in no small part to the dedication of the boys and girls and the commitment of their teachers. Well done everyone.
Our sixth class boys and girls are busy preparing to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. They have been visiting the church regularly to attend Mass. They are learning about the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit and they are exploring through discussion, their faith and their relationship with God. Once again we are very fortunate to have wonderful teachers who help to prepare the boys and girls for this important sacrament. The school choir is meeting regularly to prepare hymns for the Confirmation ceremony and are receiving wonderful support from Ms Donohoe, Mr Sullivan and Mr Doyle. The ceremony will be held in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on April 22nd at 11am.
Congratulations to all those involved in the various activities coordinated by one of our parents, Ms Ciara Jones, to support Autism awareness. Another parachute jump has been organised and there is a Facebook page entitled 'Reaching out to Autism' which helps to promote awareness of and support for parents and families. More details will follow shortly. Click on the link below to read an article from the Irish Independent regarding the work being done to support and promote Autism Awareness. http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/health/lighting-the-way-to-autism-awareness-34603084.html Congratulations to the children in Mr Hanley's sixth class. They have worked extremely hard at promoting and developing Gaeilge in their classroom and they love to use the language as often as they can throughout the day. A recent visit by the Spraoí Teanga games company emphasises their commitment to their language. Beir bua gach duine.
