Partnerships

sPartnerships within and outside the school are an important aspect of the Active School Flag. When a school participates in the Active School Flag Programme it is vital to interact and engage with other organisations and clubs.

Within Scoil an Chrío Ró Naofa Íosa we established our own ASF committee at the outset of the process.  Children who were interested in joining the committee wrote letters of application explaining why they would like to be on the committee, how hard they would work and how they would inspire others to become active.

The children were elected onto the ASF Committee. The committee members keep all classes up to date on ASF news and events. The pupil members of the ASF committee were given leadership roles. For example certain children were in charge of the P.E storeroom and sports equipment, other members were in charge of communicating messages and others were instrumental when planning events. Partnerships within and outside the school are an important aspect of the Active School Flag. When a school participates in the Active School Flag Programme it is vital to interact and engage with other organisations and clubs.

Active Flag Slogan

The Winners of our Active Flag Motto competition proudly displaying their work. The Active Flag Committee ran a competition to find a school slogan and the winning slogan was 'Fitness is cool, amazing and fun! Sitting on the sofa is where the damage is done'.

We also ran a competition to find out the name of out House Teams and the winning house names were: Hop it! Jump it! Run it! Walk it!

Well done to everyone who enter the competition and to the Active School Flag Committee for picking two brilliant winners. Each child received a prize for all their hard work and Imagination.

Our Active School Flag Committee

This is our 26 student strong Active Schools Committee from 1st to 6th class. We held elections for the committee members to be elected. After they made their pitch, they were all sworn in to the Active Flag and what a lucky school we are to have such dedicated children. From planning active breaks and Active Schools club, to choosing our house team and Active slogan to leaflet distribution to cone collection, they work tirelessly to make the Active Flag exercises a reality!!!

Connecting with our Local GAA club

We were delighted to welcome 'Sam Maguire' to our school, early in our first term.  We have partnered with St. Peregrines GAA club and they, together with Mr Herity, organised for some Dublin Senior Football players to visit the school.  It was truly inspiring for the boys and girls and they were afforded the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the life of an elite athlete.
We are also lucky that facilitators from the St. Peregrines outreach team visit our school each week to support our GAA skills development.  Boys and girls are learning hurling and Gaelic football skills each week.  It has inspired many of them to join St. Peregrines and attend weekly sessions.

Well being, Well moving...

Our children are really being put through their paces to see they can improve their fundamental coordination and movement skills. We are so lucky to be working with the Dublin County board and St Peregrines' fantastic coach as Amanda. Not only is she a brilliant GAA coach but she is currently working with our Senior infants and 2nd classes to improve their overall movement, coordination and flexibility. Amanda and her team assessed the children at the start of the programme and will be running it for the next 8 weeks and reassessing at the end to see if the children have made some progress. What a brilliant partnership!

Fingal Primary School Athletics League

Our Schools Athletics Team trained really hard this year and competed in the Fingal Primary School Athletics League at Morton Stadium. Our school competes in the Blanchardstown league. it was a great day had by all and we even brought home some silverware. Our team consists of children from 3rd to 6th class. Big thank you to all the teachers involved who trained the boys and girls all year around. Super partnership with our local community.

Leinster Rugby workshop

The four time European Champions are coming to Sacred Heart of Jesus to do a special workshop with the children on the benefits of team sports and rugby, picking up a few new skills in the process.

WOW -  Walk on Wednesday

Picture
Picture
We took part in the walk to school week 2019 from the 13th - 17th May. Working with the Green Schools initiative we asked children to walk to school everyday this week and leave the bikes, cars and scooters at home. On WOW Wednesday every class was given a map of the school to find all the Active walkway signs around the school. The children were then encouraged to take the Green Schools walkway and discover all about the Nature around our school. Great collaborative work the Active Schools and Green Schools teams. Well done everyone!!

Every year our School competes in the Cummann na mBunscol boys and girls football and hurling competitions. We enter a junior and senior team in Gaelic football and a mixed boys and girls team in hurling. Each year we strive to get to play in Croke park and represent our local community.

Every year the senior boys Gaelic Football team enter the Fingal GAA leagues with great success.  We always encourage our children to join their local club and get outside and play our native games. We are so lucky to have so much support from parents and relatives at our games and we feel very lucky to have such a healthy attitude from the whole school community towards sports.

Our Partnership with Fingal County Council Sports Ireland

Sacred Heart of Jesus has worked for many years with our local Fingal county council sports Ireland officer Owen.

Throughout the many years of this partnership, we have competed in the Athletics leagues with 3rd - 6th class children. Every year we ran Marathon kids with 6th class.

Sports conditioning (Fundamental movement skills) sessions with 3rd and 4th class. Sports facts through SPHE with 1st and 2nd classes. Owen has also ran CPD workshops in PE in the school for teacher training. This long lasting partnerships has served the community of Huntstown well over the last number of years.

We Love Wednesdays in Coiscéim!!
Our wonderful children in Coiscéim enjoying some well deserved exercise in the sunshine. The children love getting out into the community every Wednesday and experience horse riding lessons. It's a great workout for the children, working on their balance and core while hanging out with friendly horses. An amazing partnership for Sacred Heart of Jesus NS.
