The children have been encouraged to participate in the Christmas Shoebox appeal. The initiative is organised so that Christmas gifts are made available for children all over the world who sadly face poverty every day of their lives. It is a wonderful gesture of kindness on the part of our children and we thank them sincerely for their participation.
Preparation for the National Children's Choir concerts continues in our school. Children from fifth class are involved this year and they are busy learning the repertoire of songs. Assisted by their class teachers, the children learn to sing in harmony. It is an amazing opportunity for all involved and the sounds from the Atrium tell us already that we can expect an amazing concert in Spring of next year. Thank you to Ms Murray and Ms Donohoe who give of their talents so freely. The children have meetings with other participating schools and with one of the conductors in November so that they can refine their talents.
Thank you to the parents and staff who coordinated the recent book fair in the Atrium. Each class was given two opportunities to visit the fair where children could purchase books at very reasonable prices. There was a wide selection available and the children really enjoyed and valued the experience. Reading is a great joy and a wonderful gift to give our children.
Thank you to all who contributed to the recent Student Council fundraiser. The children raised a total of €1440. We enjoyed dressing up in costumes and playing Halloween games. The council members even shot a series of demonstration videos showing how to play Halloween games. These were shown to all the children in the school. Well done.
The school has applied to take part in the Yellow Flag initiative this year. The aim of the project is to promote equality and tolerance among primary and secondary school children. A committee of parents, teachers and students has been formed and a number of activities are planned for the year ahead.
