Rang 5 (Ms Lee) have been very busy recently preparing their business ideas as part of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme. It teaches boys and girls to design and develop sensible business ideas and then market them. One group of clever students decided to make personalised frames for our community. The frames had beautiful messages and were very popular among those who visited the fair in the atrium yesterday.
Well done to all involved. We had an amazing time when the 'Big Dig' visited our school. This was an opportunity for the students to learn all about how historians and archaeologists work. They were allowed to take shovels and brushes and dig in the replica of a Viking settlement. They uncovered artefacts such as swords, cups, tools and spears. They were given an expert description by the guides. It was a wonderful experience. Ms Mullany successfully organised another wonderful fortnight of World Book Day events. This included the highly anticipated Book Fair in the Atrium. All of our boys and girls and their families were able to visit the Fair where they found a range of fiction and non-fiction texts to purchase. We are as always, indebted to the parents who thoughtfully operate the Fair for us. Our school has long been involved in the FÍS Film awards. We have a strong tradition of success, securing a whole range of prizes for the amazing films we produce. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to create interesting stories and present them on film using new and emerging technologies.
This year Mr Doyle was delighted to attend the Helix theatre in DCU with his class, where they accepted yet another award for 'Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking - Originality'. The film 'A Glitch Away From Reality' was beautifully produced by the boys and girls and it is further evidence of the talents and skills that are bountiful in our school community. Well done to all involved. Maths Week proved extremely popular this year. We all had a fantastic time, using our Maths Eyes to explore the world around us. Everyone took part and everyone had great fun in the process. There was shape work at infants and first class. Students from across the school went on pre-prepared Maths Trails around the whole school. Students made patterns, explored number, played with tangrams, measured playgrounds, found odd and even numbers and even counted the footsteps from the photocopier to the classroom door at the end of the red corridor. It was a great week with a really wide and varied array of activities. Thank you to Ms O.Barry and Mr Thynne for coordinating this event.
Mr Doyle ran a very successful soccer blitz in October. It was a great opportunity to showcase the sporting talents of our students. Matches were held during lunch breaks and the final was held at the community centre next to our school. Mr Lyons was delighted to award the medals and trophy. There was great excitement and joy on display.
This year we have introduced a 'Class of the Month' award. Students from across the school are very excited to play their part. Every time we make a fervent effort to show the best of ourselves, we are rewarded with positive marks on our class level record books. We try our best to be good and kind on the playground. We make a real effort to line up properly before and after lunch. When we are showing excellent manners, great respect and courtesy, we are showing the best that Huntstown has to offer. At the end of each month, the class at each of the eight class levels that has shown the best behaviour is awarded the class of the month trophy and receives a prize.
We are delighted to have a wonderfully active student council in our school. Two students from each of the fifth and sixth classes are elected to the council each year. They help out at school events. They help to coordinate fundraising efforts. They are active in supporting the school and devising new initiatives to make the school a better place for us all. Well done to each and every one of our student council members. We look forward to working on some wonderful activities this year.
The boys and girls in Rang 6 (Ms Murray) helped to coordinate our Team Hope Shoe box Appeal, once again this year.
We are always heartened by the efforts of our students and by the kindness they show to others less fortunate than ourselves. We know that there are lots of boys and girls in other parts of the world who face challenging times this Christmas. It is the mission of the Team Hope organisers to create gift boxes with toys and practical presents for children who might otherwise not receive anything for Christmas. We are always amazed by the generosity of the students and their families. Thank you to Ms Murray for coordinating this initiative. https://vimeo.com/831126645/d19c19f8f0
Enjoy this wonderful video, which showcases our school. Thanks to Mr Doyle and his class for all of their hard work. We worked very hard over the past number of weeks to deepen our friendships. We work together every day to learn about how we can treat one another with compassion, thoughtfulness and kindness. Our infants made friendship bands together.
We are delighted to enjoy the benefits of the National Aquatic Centre in Blanchardstown. Our third class students are currently visiting the centre for swimming lessons every Tuesday. 4th, 5th and 6th class students also enjoyed their lessons and we have noted the improvements made by all our students. Well done everyone and thank you Ms Higgins for organising it all.
There was great excitement recently as we welcomed the Book Fair back to our Atrium after a hiatus. It was great to visit the Atrium with our friends and choose some books. Thank you to Ms Mullany and the parents who organised and ran the event for us all.
Rang 4 is busy planting a vegetable garden. The children are entering a competition run by Woodies. They must plant a garden in a 1.5 X 1.5 metre square patch. Thanks to the support of Mr Kestell, the plot has been prepared and the seedlings have been propagated. With some warmer weather and a little luck, they will hopefully enjoy some wonderful vegetables before too long. Planting is a big part of our Science studies. We love looking after nature and we benefit when we celebrate its wonder.
We were thrilled to welcome Karl and Emily recently. They performed some dances and answered our questions. It was a great experience for everyone. It was then wonderful to learn that Karl won the 'Dancing with the stars' competition. He reminded us all to give our best to everything that we do. Hard work is always involved in great success.
Our 6th classes produced some wonderful projects on the theme of 'Space'. We are amazed by the quality of what they have produced. Well done to all involved.
Bhí craic againn i rith seachtain na Gaeilge, muidne ag ceiliúradh le chéile. Bhí tráth na gceist ag Rang 5 agus Rang 6. Bhí na naoínraí ag damhsa sa halla.

Please enjoy our summer slideshow. It is heartening to witness what wonderful boys and girls we have here in Huntstown. We are truly blessed. Have a wonderful summer together. Tá an t-ádh linn go bhfuil a lán spáis againn in ár scoil. Faoi láthair tá gairdín beaga ag na paistí agus ag tús na bliana, thosaigh siad ag ullmhú glasraí agus luibheanna don earrach. Leis an dea-aimsir atá againn, is féidir linn obair leis an cré amuigh faoin spéir. Táimid ag tnúth go mór leis na glasraí, le cunamh Dé.
Once again, we joyously participated in World Book Day. There is a long held tradition of celebrating the day here in the school and we did so with vim and vigour this year. Ms O'Connor discovered some very old comic books, which had been stored behind our library. Lots of boys and girls were invited to think of alternative endings to the comic book stories. It was a lovely idea and lots of fun for everyone.
It was a pleasure to participate in Engineering Week 2022. Our senior classes really enjoyed taking part in the challenges. Rang 4 discovered the engineering principles underpinning bridge construction. Part of their discovery involved testing the strength of eggs. They even attempted to stand on a carton of eggs! Luckily, what they had learned ensured that there was no egg explosion in any of the classrooms. There was however, plenty of laughter and lots of learning. Well done everyone for taking part.
Recently, our local community centre hosted an outdoor art exhibition. Showcasing local artistic talent, it was a pleasure to see how our community captured their thinking and demonstrated their motivations. Our school, being the closest neighbours, had full advantage of this wonderful exhibition. Thank you to all involved.
We were delighted to be able to celebrate 'Safer Internet Week' in our school. Each morning our 6th class students read a message on the intercom, advising us all on how best to stay safe when using online resources and communications. We value the power of technology but we also appreciate that many responsibilities come with it and we must work together to be S.M.A.R.T. We follow the S.M.A.R.T rules when we use the internet.
