Enjoy this wonderful video from the boys and girls in Mr Doyle's sixth class. Heart warming. We are blessed to be in a school with such extraordinary talent and to have the willingness to share our gifts with others. Thank you to all the boys and girls, their teachers and support staff, for producing this wonderful virtual tour of our school at Christmas. It will certainly uplift our families. Sincerest thanks to Ms Lee for producing the final video.
Enjoy. Rang 6 had a great time with Ms O'Connor. They created this wonderfully evocative video. It was inspired by their spooky paintings and a well known piece of poetry from Shakespeare's 'Macbeth'. The students used their voices so effectively to present their work.
Lots of our boys and girls are finding Lego WeDo very helpful. They use it to explore coding and expand their 21st Century learning skills. It involves lots of engineering skills, plenty of listening and loads of cooperating with one another.
We are so proud of Mr Doyle and his class (now in 5th class) who were victorious at the recent FÍS film awards. The school has a long tradition of participating in the competition. It was a wonderful achievement to win another award; this time for outstanding soundtrack. Writing, creating, filming and editing a film involves months of hard work and an extraordinary amount of effort from the students and their teacher. This year the awards ceremony was streamed live and classes could enjoy it from the comfort of the classroom. Given the high quality of the entries received, it was clear that Mr Doyle's class really impressed the judges. Well done everyone.
Congratulations to Kayleigh in Ms Dwyer's class. She was delighted to participate with lots of other boys and girls in the annual Late Late Toy show. Kayleigh loves to dance and perform. It was an amazing opportunity to be able to perform in front of the cameras. Well done Kayleigh.
We were delighted to celebrate together on Friday 26 November. It was the night of the Late Late Toy Show and the boys, girls and staff donned their favourite Christmas jumper or Christmas colours. Normally our students participate in the Team Hope shoebox appeal (https://www.teamhope.ie/christmas-shoebox-appealwww.teamhope.ie/christmas-shoebox-appeal//) This year however we were unable to do so. We decided instead to donate to the charity. Thank you to all of the families who kindly supported this initiative. We hope that we may have made Christmas a little brighter for those less fortunate than ourselves.
We enjoyed some Halloween fun before our midterm break. The boys and girls played Halloween games and we dressed up on the last Friday before the holidays. We enjoyed a wonderful range of activities for Science Week 2021. There was bubble blowing, tower building, milk magic and much more. The discoveries were all conducted by the boys and girls and they really enjoyed the experience.
We are saying a fond farewell to our dear colleague Ms Forrestal this year. After more than twenty years working with the boys and girls in Huntstown, Ms Forrestal is now retiring. She has brought kindness, respect and thoughtfulness to our school, showing us all what can be achieved through hard work and dedication. Ms Forrestal is incredibly artistic and she has shared these talents with all of the boys, girls and staff in the school. We have learned so much from you Ms Forrestal and we are enormously grateful for all that you have done for us here in Huntstown.
We hope that you enjoy a wonderful retirement. You richly deserve it. Although life has been different for all of us this year, our school continues to be a place of fun, creativity and exploration. The images above are proof that even though we have all adapted to new ways of doing things, our imaginations have not been curtailed in any way. We are blessed to have such amazing staff members and fantastic boys and girls who work together to learn new things.
Ireland Reads is a new campaign from Irish libraries, Children’s Books Ireland, NALA, booksellers, publishers and others to get the whole country reading this month in the lead up to Ireland Reads Day on Thursday, the 25th of February.
The aim is to get everyone to pledge to ‘squeeze in a read’ on the 25th of February, Ireland Reads Day – whether that’s reading a book, a newspaper, a comic – whatever works. We would love if schools, teachers and students would get involved and pledge to read! Please visit www.irelandreads.ie, where you can: · Let us know how long you’re going to read for on Ireland Reads Day, February 25th. We’ll send you a reminder closer to the day. · Get some reading inspiration – simply enter the type of book you like best, how long you have available to read each day and the website will suggest a book and tell you how long it will take to read it. All over the country, libraries and partners will be holding events and activities online in support of Ireland Reads. Check the Ireland Reads website or on your local library website. Unfortunately, libraries and bookshops are closed right now but you can always get thousands of eBooks, audiobooks, magazines and newspapers online through your library. Simply visit www.librariesireland.ie to join or to find out how to use Borrowbox, RBDigial and PressReader to get access. You can of course also order the books you want through Irish booksellers’ websites. Please help to get Ireland Reading! Many tributes have been paid this week, to a dear friend, exceptional colleague, compassionate educator and selfless servant to the community of Huntstown. Among the most common sentiments echoed by everyone who has been privileged to know Mr Harty, is 'true gentleman'. After thirty-five years of dedicated service to our school and our families, Mr Harty begins his retirement. We cannot be but heavy hearted to say farewell to someone who has treated us all with such kindness. This has been evinced in the warm and pleasant interactions he has shared with parents, children and staff. It is revealed through the listening ear that hears the heartbeat of the school community and responds with endless empathy and humanity to its steady beat. It is demonstrated by his unfailing commitment to all of the children in the school and in particular our children with special educational needs. Most importantly, this giant of our school, this titan in our community, has shown through deeds and words a wellspring of grace and decency.
We are forever in your debt Mr Harty. You have recognised the best in all of us and in so doing, enabled us to demonstrate to the world what can be achieved when you turn to face the sun. The warming rays can lead us to be courageous, dispel self doubt and stretch us bravely forward casting nothing but shadows of encouragement in our wake. From the children, parents, staff, Board of Management and all who have been blessed to share in your talents, sincerest thanks. We wish you joy as you embark on this new adventure. May it be filled with the brightest of days.
Welcome to our Art competition. There are so many boys and girls in our school who love to express themselves through Art. We think everyone will enjoy the activities set out in the documents above. Please feel free to send your entries, together with your name and class teacher to [email protected]
We will be announcing winners in due course. Thank you to the Art committee for organising this wonderful event. Thank you to Cian and his family for sharing his baking project. Cian loves to make tasty food for all his family and enjoys sharing his talents. Ms Demoitie and Cian are always busy at school and together they create some incredible treats for us all. Cian thought it would be nice to use the skills he has learned with Ms Demoitie at home and I think we can all agree, he is a wonderful baker. It takes lots of patience and plenty of organisation to bake tasty things to eat. Well done Cian for using your time at home so wisely. You are an inspiration to us all.
So many of our boys and girls have been in touch recently, sharing lots of wonderful activities from home. Ciara in Ms Concannon's class decorated a tree of hope. We can all benefit from a little bit of hopeful cheer and this beautiful tree certainly uplifts our spirits. Lennon in Ms Kennedy's class produced a wonderful project all about his local area. The boys and girls in Mr Busher's second class have been using lego to show us all their creative capabilities. Truly we are blessed to have so many brilliant boys and girls here in Huntstown. Máith sibh go léir.
We have been overwhelmed by the positive responses to our project ideas. Boys and girls, together with their families, have been using their time at home to explore the natural world. They have documented their discoveries and shared their stories with us here at school. Indeed, we were thrilled to learn that extended families from far away got involved. Some of Ms O'Connor's family in Donegal decided to share in our fun. They very kindly sent us these pictures with some information on the wildlife in their back garden. We love that they even included their wonderful cat, who has a most intriguing name. Perhaps some of our families in Huntstown might like to compare the birds found in Dublin 15 to those found in Donegal. We learn so much when we open our worlds to other people. We often find that we have lots in common with our friends, neighbours and families who might live in different counties. We can also learn about the things that make each place unique. In Huntstown there are lots of roads and streets named after pheasants, such as 'Pheasants Run'. Yet very few of our boys and girls have ever seen a pheasant up close like the one in the pictures above. What wildlife might be found in Huntstown that might surprise our friends in Donegal? Maybe someone might take a photograph and share it with us: [email protected]
